Throughout history the arts have had the power to activate and unite forward-thinking people and communities. With the scope and scale of the issues facing us today, artists have the opportunity and the imperative to do our most important work. Sometimes all we need is a little hand up. That’s where headquarters comes in. We help artists help each other.

headquarters started with our founder Lisa O’Reilly’s simple wish to share her storefront studio to:

1) support artists

2) build community

3) integrate the arts across disciplines

4) spread peace and love

Yes, it is the ultimate Berkeley hippie dream. The amazing thing is that it works. With these guiding principles, we have been able to support each other’s practices, amplify our combined positive impact, integrate the arts with other disciplines, and welcome thousands of visitors.

The power and beauty of headquarters is that we don’t ever really know what is going to happen. But, this we do know: when we work together, good things are not only possible, they're probable.
